Katelyn Millinor
I was born and raised in a small town in North Carolina where I stayed through my college years. I went to a liberal arts college where I majored in history. My path to becoming a counselor happened by mistake. I, like many other young professionals, was unsure what I wanted to do for a career. I met a mentor, a mental health provider, who ultimately led me on my path to pursuing a Master of Arts degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling where I also earned the Counselor Education Award in Clinical Excellence.
I continued to work to obtain independent licensures in several states. I have worked in a variety of mental health settings, including private practice, employee assistance programs, behavioral consulting in primary medical care, residential treatment, intensive outpatient, and community mental health. I’ve also served in leadership positions at community agencies to impact mental health treatment for at-risk communities.
A few years after college, my husband and I ventured out to Arizona and lived there for 6 years. While there, we had our son, Miles, who is now 5. We moved back home to North Carolina to escape the city (and heat!) and build a life on our ranch. My husband is a large animal veterinarian so, of course, we have some animals on our land (including my colt, Dusty, pictured here). When I’m not seeing clients - I’m out on the land, going on vet calls, playing with my boy, or lost deep in a book.
I am curious by nature. I enjoy learning about others' upbringings and cultural backgrounds. I believe that understanding the world around us starts with understanding the people in it. I take every opportunity to learn and grow as a person by connecting with people from different backgrounds. This has allowed me to broaden my perspective and develop a greater appreciation for diversity.
I have always enjoyed learning and frequently grab free continuing education classes. I also invest in getting certifications or specialized training in my area of clinical focus. I enjoy talking and consulting with other mental health counselors as well.
